Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-09-14 · applies to the Moonpager app at moonpager.com
Moonpager is run by Moonpager LLC. When this policy says “we” or “us,” that’s who it means.
The short version
Moonpager is a place to see who’s around and hang out with your people. It is not an advertising product. We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t run analytics trackers or build profiles of your behavior. We collect what the product needs to work, and that’s it.
What we collect
- Your account. Email address, handle, and display name. If you sign up with a password, our sign-in provider (Supabase) handles it, and we never see or store it in readable form. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with us.
- Your birthday. Asked for when you join. It’s used to keep people under 13 out, to keep 18+ areas and games for adults, and to switch on the extra protections for members under 18 (see Teens below). If you open Astrology, your own browser uses it to suggest your sign; that suggestion isn’t saved or shown to anyone. Your birthday is never displayed anywhere, and only you can see that it’s set.
- What you put on your Space. Profile text, details, mood, photos, avatar, Wall posts, themes, Top 8, stickers, pets, music links, and your sign if you pick one. You make it so other members can see it.
- Messages and chat. IMs and room chat are stored so they can be delivered and stay readable in the conversation.
- Presence and activity. “Who’s online now” is live status that isn’t kept as history. Some things that happen, like a page you send, a mood change, or joining a room, are recorded so catch-up screens like While You Were Out can show your friends what they missed.
- Space views: totals only, on purpose. Your Space’s visit counter stores a single number. We deliberately do not record who visited, when, or from where, so there is no per-visitor record to leak, subpoena, or misuse.
- Invites. If you join through someone’s invite link, we record that the link was used, so the two of you are connected as friends.
- Where you are (only if you ask for weather). Weather needs somewhere to get a forecast for, so the first time you open it your browser asks whether to share your location. If you say no, nothing is sent and the rest of the app is unaffected. If you say yes, your location is rounded to about a kilometer before it leaves your browser, and that rounded location is used to look up the forecast. It’s stored for you only if you turn Profile Weather on, so it can refresh without asking again.
Your location is never shown to anyone. What other members can see is the weather itself (the temperature, the condition, and the line about it), plus a rough place name only if you switched that on yourself. It’s off by default. Turning Profile Weather off in Settings stops the sharing, and deleting your account removes the stored location with everything else. - Push notifications (only if you turn them on). For each device you turn them on for: a delivery token, a short label for the browser or device, and its time zone, so quiet hours follow your phone. Nothing is sent until you turn notifications on. When you do, a recommended set is on (pages, IMs, friend requests, and Come Hangs), and you can switch each kind off in Settings. A notification about an IM never includes the message itself.
- Reports. If you report something, we keep who reported what and why, plus a copy of the reported words and who wrote them, so the founders can review it even if the post or the account is deleted afterward, and a record of what we did about it. If you report a photo, we also keep a private copy of the picture for the same reason. Stickers aren’t copied.
- Games and music history. Scores and song-play history: the group’s shared memory of what you played together.
- Server logs. Like almost every website, the services that host Moonpager log technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page asked for, and the time, along with error messages when something breaks. They’re used to keep the app running and secure, not to study you, and those services keep them for a limited time.
The founders sometimes look at overall numbers worked out from the things above (for example, how many new members have talked to someone) to see whether Moonpager is doing its job. That’s counting, not tracking: no ad or analytics trackers are involved, and nothing builds a profile of you.
Cookies and your browser
We use only the essential cookies that keep you signed in. No advertising cookies and no third-party tracking cookies. The app also saves a few things in your browser’s own storage so they stay on your device: settings like sound on or off, your recent emoji, sticker drafts, and any other accounts you’ve added to the account switcher.
Who can see what
Your Space and profile are for signed-in members. That’s the point of a Space. You control your content and can block people; blocking cuts contact in both directions. If someone reports content, the founders (real people, not an algorithm) can look at the reported item to act on the report. Areas marked After Dark are 18+ only.
Photos and other files you upload work like a link. Your avatar, backgrounds, photos, and audio are stored at web addresses that aren’t password-protected, so anyone who has the exact link can open the file, even without an account. The addresses are long and random and aren’t listed anywhere, but if someone copies one and shares it, it will open.
Services we run on
Moonpager runs on Supabase (database, sign-in, and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (our domain, email routing, and the bot check on the log-in, sign-up, and password reset pages), and Resend (the sign-in and confirmation emails). Weather comes from Open-Meteo and, in the US, the National Weather Service; they receive only the rounded location. Push notifications travel through the service built into your browser or phone (such as Apple’s or Google’s). Each of these processes data only to provide its service to us. If you use “Sign in with Google,” Google’s own privacy policy applies to that sign-in. When you play media in a room (for example a YouTube video or a Spotify track), that provider’s player loads and their policies apply while it plays.
Your choices
- Most things you post can be edited or deleted right where you posted them.
- Weather, push notifications, and each kind of notification can be turned off in Settings.
- Want a copy of your data? Email us from your account’s address and we’ll send you one.
- You can delete your whole account yourself at any time (below).
Keeping and deleting
Your content stays until you remove it. Self-destructing photos (like Runway shots) are designed to disappear on their own. Live presence isn’t kept as history.
You can delete your account yourself, any time, in Settings → Delete my account. It’s immediate and permanent: your Space, photos and other uploaded files, messages, and friendships are removed at once. Prefer to ask a person? Email hello@moonpager.com from your account’s email address and we’ll do it for you promptly.
Two honest footnotes. Our database provider keeps daily backups for 7 days, so deleted account data can sit in a backup for up to a week before it’s gone for good (uploaded files aren’t part of those backups). And a photo that someone’s browser already loaded can stay in that browser’s own cache for a while, even after the file itself is deleted.
Teens
Moonpager is for people 13 and older. If a birthday at signup is under 13, no account is kept. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we’ll remove it.
Members aged 13 to 17 get extra protection. Right now they join by invitation. An adult who isn’t their friend can’t message them, send them a friend request, nudge them, or post on their Wall. 18+ areas and games stay closed to them, and quiet hours for notifications are on by default.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. If it changes in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app instead of burying it.
